The party season is well and truly over and it’s time to get back to reality. If you overdid it during the festive season (let’s face it, who didn’t?) and your skin is looking a little worse for wear, then we are here to help you get that radiant complexion back.
Too much yummy, luxurious food, one too many glasses of fizz and dancing into the early hours, can wreak havoc on your body, skin and hair, leaving you with dull, lifeless, dry and spotty skin.
All that fun will leave your skin dehydrated, dry and with the lot’s of sugar no doubt involved, a tad spotty too.
What can you do to get back to your glowing self?
Firstly, you’re going to need to get back on the healthy eating and drinking plenty of water bandwagon to get your skin glowing from within. Hydration, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, found in water and within fruit and vegetables, will be able to work wonders from the inside.
Pamper Time
Why not start the new year and your new skincare routine with a good ol’ pamper? This way you can thoroughly indulge your skin and get it off to the best start.
Firstly, your skin will be clogged with dirt, grime and dead skin cells from over the festive period, so you need to get rid of these with an exfoliator.
An exfoliator like K2A’s Exfoliating Face Polish is gentle but tough enough to slough away the dirt to reveal, fresher and younger skin cells meaning you’ll face will look brighter and less lacklustre.
Once you have exfoliated it’s a great idea to apply a mask to your face. The mask will be able to invigorate and let your skin absorb all the goodness it needs, to become healthy and glowing once more. There are many different types of masks designed to help with different skin complaints, so choose one that will help your skin concern.
For example, a mask containing Hyaluronic Acid is great for supplying the skin with all the hydration it needs, and charcoal is great at drawing out the grime stuck within the pores that cause spots.
Gone are the days when you would simply use one mask, why not multitask? Apply a charcoal mask on your t-zone (where congestion normally occurs), and a radiance boosting mask to the rest of your face, to make it brighter?
Finding a mask that targets your specific skin concerns is a great way to give your skin a helping hand in repairing itself.
Once you have left your mask/s for the time required, rinse off and apply an eye cream, serum and moisturiser.
By treating your skin to this essential pamper, your skin can get ahead, obtaining the right ingredients to bring it back to life. To make sure your skin is on the right path to getting back its glow, you’re going to need to have a daily skincare routine in place. It doesn’t have to be exhaustingly long, but there are a few simple steps that you’ll have to do.
Chances have you probably already had a good routine in place, but perhaps those late nights meant you let it slip slightly, or committed the ultimate skincare sin and slept with your makeup on?
What should your skincare routine involve?
Double cleanse, serum, eye cream, moisturiser and SPF protection (morning only).
Evening skincare routine
It’s so important to double cleanse at the end of the day to remove all dirt, makeup and to let the cleanser thoroughly clean the skin and pores.
Follow with a serum that will deal with whatever skin issues you want to address. From calming redness, adding extra hydration, or fighting the signs of ageing, a serum can be quickly absorbed into the skin to get to work, helping to repair skin cells.
Once this has been absorbed, apply a nutritious eye cream to tackle those fine lines, dark circles and any puffiness. Dark circles are a telltale sign of all the late night partying you’ve been up to and will be the first to show signs of dehydration too.
Once you’ve applied your serum and eye cream, you should then gently massage in a moisturiser. This will help your skin in its repair process, working to restore your skin back to its natural healthy look, and provide a much need boost of hydration too, whilst protecting your skin’s natural barrier.
Morning skin care routine
In the morning cleanse, apply eye cream, moisturise and apply an SPF to protect your face from the Sun. This will also help to protect your face from irritants that lay ahead in everyone’s day to day life, such as pollution.
Do these routines every day and you’ll start to see an improvement in the way your skin looks and feels, meaning you can regain that healthy complexion once again.
