Nowadays, trips to the spa are becoming a more common occurrence. For a first-time spa-goer, the experience may be quite overwhelming so here are a few tips to prepare you for a day of indulgence.
Typically, on arrival, you will be given a robe and slippers and given a couple of minutes to change into these. You may be given disposable underwear but if not, keep your own underwear or swimwear on.
You may feel that you want to tip for good service, so it can be helpful to keep change handy in your dressing gown pocket. It is best to arrive at least 10 minutes early in order to complete consultation forms and change so that you do not feel rushed and it does not cut into your treatment time.
If you suffer from a serious medical condition or are pregnant it is advisable to inform the spa ahead of time to ensure the treatment is suitable for you. Many spas employ male therapists, therefore it is important that you specify if you do not want a male therapist in order to avoid delays on the day.
Before your treatment ensure that you are freshly showered, do not worry if you have not shaved your legs or about any other body lumps and bumps as your therapist will be experienced in this field and is only interested in your comfort and wellbeing. Do not forget to let your therapist know your preferred level of pressure for massage or if you would like the temperature or music adjusted.
It is better to let them know during the treatment rather than suffer in silence. It is recommended that mobile phones are switched off, especially in the relaxation area as they can ruin the ambience for yourself and others.
It is encouraged that you eat a light meal on the day and consume limited alcohol as you will be lying down. It is also important to drink lots of water throughout the day, especially if you are having a massage or using heat treatments.
However, the most important thing to remember is to relax and enjoy yourself as the spa is a place to allow you to forget the outside world and indulge in some ‘you’ time!
